В этот день Святая Церковь празднует одно из великих событий в жизни Пресвятой Богородицы — Её Введение во храм. Согласно церковному Преданию, когда Деве Марии исполнилось три года, праведные родители Её, Иоаким и Анна, привели Её в Иерусалимский храм, чтобы посвятить Богу, как они обещали в своих молитвах.

С благоговением встретил их священник Захария — отец будущего Иоанна Предтечи. Вдохновлённый Духом Святым, он ввёл Маленькую Деву не только во дворы храма, куда обычно не входили девицы, но и во Святое Святых — место, куда мог входить лишь первосвященник, и то однажды в году. Это было знаком того, что Мария станет живым храмом Бога, ибо в ней вселится Сам Сын Божий.

С этого дня Пресвятая Дева пребывала при храме, возрастая в чистоте, молитве и послушании, готовясь к великому служению — стать Матерью Спасителя мира. Церковь воспевает: «Днесь благоволения Божия предизображение и человеков спасения проповедание…», — ведь с Введением начинается приготовление человечества к Воплощению Христа.

December 4 – The Entry (Presentation) of the Most Holy Theotokos into the Temple

On this day the Holy Church celebrates one of the great events in the life of the Theotokos — her Entry into the Temple. According to Holy Tradition, when the Virgin Mary was three years old, her righteous parents, Joachim and Anna, brought her to the Temple in Jerusalem to dedicate her to God, fulfilling the vow they had made in their prayers.

The priest Zechariah — the future father of John the Forerunner — received them with reverence. Inspired by the Holy Spirit, he led the little Virgin not only into the outer courts, where girls were normally allowed, but into the very Holy of Holies — a place entered only once a year by the high priest. This was a divine sign that she herself would become the living temple of God, for within her the Son of God would dwell.

From that day, the Most Holy Virgin remained in the Temple, growing in purity, prayer, and obedience, preparing for her sacred calling — to become the Mother of the Savior. The Church sings: “Today is the prelude of the good will of God and the proclamation of the salvation of men…”, for through her Entry begins the preparation for the Incarnation of Christ.
